Ordering Information

Please order books and software by phone, fax, or mail. Consult our discount and payment policies. If you prefer to order on-line through the Internet, find the title that you are interested in and then visit Amazon.Com. Amazon's on-line catalog does not include the detailed descriptions that ours does, so it is easier to select a book here.

INDIVIDUALS must prepay orders in US dollars with check, money order, international money order or credit card (we accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover, as well as their European equivalents). Give card number and expiration date of the card, billing address for the card, print your name as it appears on the card, and sign the order. We cannot ship without the expiration date and your signature. There is a flat $4.00 per order (not per book) shipping charge for shipping inside the United States on all prepaid orders shipped via USPS, regardless of the number of books in the order. Be sure to use your zip code in the USA; we must have it to ship the books. We prefer that you use your school address if possible. Ohio residents must add sales tax.

LIBRARIES, BOOKSTORES, DEPARTMENTS and other institutions can be billed if we receive an official order (on order form, letterhead, etc.); shipping charges, including registration charges for large orders shipped outside the USA, are added to the net price after discount. Terms: net 30 days after receipt of the books. Accounts not on time will be placed on pro forma billing.

ORDERING THROUGH BOOKSTORES (for individuals as well as libraries): if a bookstore claims that they can't get our books, try another bookstore or order directly from us (and get the discount). For various reasons, one of which is failure to pay on time in the past, we do not extend credit to certain bookstores, and they must pay before we ship the books. Some of these stores never do send in the money, apparently telling customers that the book is not available. In another case a chain told a customer that we don't accept single-copy orders -- that is not true. We are perfectly willing to accept orders for single copies. If you can't get our books through your bookseller, try another; if you live outside the USA, write us for the name of a bookstore in your country that does sell our books.

A NOTE ON FOREIGN SHIPPING (for individuals as well as libraries): As of April 2007, the US Postal Service no longer offers any variety of surface mail shipping to foreign destinations. Only airmail service is available. We regret that we must pass along the actual cost of airmail shipping for book and journal orders. We attempt to minimize the cost to customers by using the most economical rariant in each case. We suggest that you contact us for details if you are planning an order. The most economical option is often a Priority Mail International Flat Rate Envelope, for shipments of up to 4 pounds (approx. 1.7 kg), which costs $11.00 to many European destinations and could include as many as four smaller paperback books.

SPECIAL HANDLING (for individuals as well as libraries): Please note that special handling for order fulfillment beyond our standard procedures will be assessed an addiitonal special handling fee of $2. Examples of special handling requests triggering this fee include: gift wrapping, custom invoicing (e.g., to obscure the real price for gifts or other reasons), custom packing arrangements, hand delivery to a shipping agent other than the ones Slavica uses regularly (USPS, UPS, FedEx), custom reporting of order fulfullment beyond the reporting provided by shipping carriers, etc. Unique situations may require a larger fee, in which case we will notify the customer in advance of carrying out the customer's instructions.

FOREIGN CUSTOMERS PLEASE NOTE: paymentmust be for the full amount of the invoice. We are not responsible for any bank charges. We accept several forms of payment:

Visa and Mastercard (as well as these European Equivalents).

Checks drawn on U.S. Banks.

International Money Orders in U.S. dollars.

Due to changes in university policies, we are no longer able to accept wire transfers for payment; we apologize for any inconvenience because of this change in policy.

FOREIGN BOOKSTORES which stock many of our titles on a regular basis include the following, and we recommend them:

Grant & Cutler, London, England

Heffers Booksellers, Cambridge, England

Kubon & Sagner, Munich, Germany

Orbis Books, London, England

Studiebogladen, Aarhus, Denmark

Thornton Books, Oxford, England

Prices at these stores may differ from Slavica's list prices and are set by the bookstore. They may include VAT and other taxes.

EXAMINATION AND DESK COPIES: Slavica has reinstated a policy of sending free examination copies to instructors genuinely considering one of our books for adoption as a required course textbook. This policy has encountered abuse in the past, which led to it being eliminated for some years, and it will be continued only as long as we find that people are being honest about their requests. A desk copy of any textbook will be provided free of charge when 10 or more copies of the book are ordered. Please refer to the textbook order when requesting a desk copy.

RETURN POLICY: Slavica will cheerfully accept returns of books up to one year from the date of purchase if and only if they are in new, resalable condition. We will offer partial credit for returns in shelf-worn or used condition if they are still good enough to use as display or sample copies. We will offer no credit for books that arrive in unsable condition. Return shipping is the obligation of the bookstore.

Permission to return our merchandise is required. Please submit a request to return via fax, email, or mail, and we will authorize the return and provide our returns address. Books must be in their original shrinkwrap for a full refund. If the books are not shrinkwrapped, only a 50% refund is granted.

For all customers, credit is granted in the form of a credit memo, which may be applied against existing or future invoices, and which you may return to us with a request that we issue a refund check.

In the rare event that a return results from our error (wrong title shipped, wrong quantity, wrong address, etc.), Slavica will take any measures required to correct the situation and ensure that the customer bears no associated expenses. Please call or email us with details.

FACULTY: please do us, yourself, and your students a favor: send a marked copy of this catalog to your library's acquisitions department. Many libraries won't order except at the express request of faculty. Your library can get the 20% or 10% discount by ordering directly from us.

ALL SLAVICA BOOKS listed in this catalog (except Teacher's Manuals) have a sewn binding, which makes the books last longer and allows them to lie flat when opened. Most of our scholarly books (including all since 1985) and many of our textbooks are printed on acid-free paper; the remainder are on high-quality long-life paper. Bindings are soft cover except where cloth is specified, and the trim size is 6 by 9 inches unless noted otherwise. These specifications may not apply to books from other publishers.
